[Stockholm, Sweden] – Food Justice Sweden is proud to host an event with MIFTAH (The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy) from the West Bank. The event will present MIFTAH’s latest research and human rights mapping, examining the gendered impacts of war and occupation. It will focus particularly on reproductive genocide, the denial of women’s health rights, and the deliberate use of starvation as a weapon of war during the ongoing Israeli military assault in Gaza.
Based on over fifty testimonies from women in Gaza, the event will amplify first-hand accounts of how hunger and deprivation shape daily survival. These testimonies reveal the multifaceted suffering endured by women – from the inability to secure basic nutrition for their children, to the devastating effects of prolonged malnutrition on maternal and reproductive health, to the emotional and psychological strain of navigating family survival under siege.
By highlighting these lived experiences, MIFTAH emphasizes how structural and systematic policies of violence disproportionately affect the most vulnerable groups. The event also aims to situate these findings within broader debates on international humanitarian law and human rights, raising questions about accountability and the urgent need for gender-sensitive protection mechanisms – and above all, an end to the genocide.
Finally, the session strives to unite rigorous reporting with the powerful voices of women on the ground, demonstrating how reproductive rights, food security, and women’s survival are systematically undermined in times of war. It invites policymakers, practitioners, and advocates to reflect on the urgent necessity to address reproductive genocide, famine, and gender-based violence not as collateral damage, but as deliberate strategies of war that demand accountability, justice, and a sustained international response.
